Just a note about my favorite singer - Kishore Kumar -The legendary icon of Indian Film Industry - on his birthday - Aug 04

Just thought I will write a note about my favorite singer - Kishore Kumar -The legendary icon of Indian Film Industry  - on his birthday - Aug 04

Since there are so many thousands of articles and posts on this topic hence I am not writing much about Kishore Kumar's singing or biography or such here.

I just wanted to list some of the songs that were sung by Kishore Kumar and they were also sung by other legendary and contemporary singers of his time.

Although these songs were sung by more than one singer, still Kishore Kumar's versions were ALWAYS much more POPULAR than the other versions.

It is said that according to the recording companies, his songs always sold multiple times than of his contemporary singers and hence he became the highest-paid singer during his time!

Listed below are songs that were sung by Kishore Kumar and separately versions by other contemporary singer's of his time  -

  • Ajnabi Tum Jaane Pehchaane   ( Lata Mangeshkar)
  • Chhoti Si Yeh Duniya   ( Lata Mangeshkar)
  • Jeevan Ke Safar Me Raahi   ( Lata Mangeshkar)

unhappiness paradox - random thought

I read somewhere that there are 2 reasons for unhappiness in life : (1) You are not getting what you want (2) You got or are getting what you want.

So - what does this mean? It looks like a paradox. The message is simply trying to imply that unhappiness is in our minds. Unhappiness is not due to the external circumstances but our internal thinking. The process of life, the process, and the actions of trying to achieve something are in themselves fulfilling. Desires are endless. The moment you achieve something, the next thing will pop up in your mind for the next achievement.

You study and pass your college exams. That is an achievement but then you want more, you want a job. You get a nice job but then you want more, you want promotions or a higher salary or such. You want a perfect relationship. You buy a house, a car, nice amenities, etc but we always want the next thing!

How to become happier? Well, let go of the outcome and accept and embrace life totally believe in the power that is running the entire universe and it is also running within you!

Thanks for your time. Enjoy!

Best wishes.

Lots of love and best regards,

living in the moment - random thought

I remember that many years ago I read a quote from John Lennon ( of The Beatles) that goes something like -" life is what happens, while we are busy making other plans". I even used it as my email signature line when that was the fashion in the early days of the internet and email in the early 1990s. I believe it is a very meaningful reminder for all of us. The statement basically implies that we lose moments of our real-life when trying to achieve success.

The word 'success' has different meanings for different people and there are books on the topic of success and how to define it for you and such, but here we are considering typical definition as related to accumulating money or power.

The famous book on new age spirituality called The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is also primarily referring to the same concept that sometimes we miss the present moment while perpetually planning the future or remembering the incidents of the past. Living in the moment has become a catchphrase nowadays but then again the phrase is actually misinterpreted by most people. Many people associate some reckless behavior or indulgence in fun activities as living in the moment. But living in the moment is actually not that. It does not mean 'do whatever'. It does not mean not creating any plans or associations or attachments etc. In my opinion, all of those things can still be done as normal humans living in the 'society' but with the "awareness" of the present moment, the vastness of this universe, the lack of control over our destinies.

Living in the moment is primarily about being aware. We need to accept and be aware of our immediate situation or surrounding instead of thinking about what could have happened or how it will affect the future or what we had expected to happen sometime in the past. Accept everything as it exists at the moment and everything being a part of the 'flow' without trying to fight it. It does not mean we should not plan for the future or save money for the future or plan to study some subject. We can do all of that while primarily accepting the current state and being aware of the "is-ness" of the current time and place.

Thank you.

Best wishes.

Why watching your breath is the common denominator for meditation

If you have been practicing meditation for some time or learning how to meditate or just curious about meditation in general, you must have heard about watching your breath during meditation.

Why watching your breath is the common denominator for meditation. The reason in my mind is multiple, and while meditation you can focus on these 10 points  with regard to breathing

 (1)  breathing is a rhythmic process and hence can regulate our thoughts during meditation

(2) if you imagine a fish inside the water and is essential for the survival of the fish, similar is our situation where if we went into the water or were chucked out into space without oxygen we would be like fish out of the water

(3) breathing gives us the connection from inside the body to something outside the body

(4) breathing is related to our essential life force and the prana so connecting life to the process

(5) breathing provides us with oxygen which is required by every cell in our body to survive

(6) breathing also helps us get rid of carbon monoxide which is waste and toxic

(7) breathing is what differentiates a living human from a dead person

(8) reduces stress

(9) lowers blood pressure

(10) lowers heart rate

Thanks for your time.
